Peanuts is a retired comic strip, formerly written by Charles Monroe Shulz. It was written
from October 2, 1950 to February 13, 2000
Story[]
Peanuts strips are mostly comedic with a lot of dark humor. Charlie Brown is known for being bad at baseball and having a crush on a little red haired girl who is never actually seen. Generally Charlie Brown is made fun of and no one really likes him.
Fame[]
It was known as one of the most famous and most popular strips of the time, as long as being one of the most influential. It had almost 18K strips published in total, being one of the longest comic strips to have ever run as well. Unfortunately, the strip ended on January 3, 2000. This is the final message it stated -
Dear Friends,
I have been fortunate to draw Charlie Brown and his friends for almost fifty years. It has been the fulfillment of my childhood ambition.
Unfortunately, I am no longer able to maintain the schedule demanded by a daily comic strip. My family does not wish "Peanuts" to be continued by anyone else, therefore I am announcing my retirement.
I have been grateful over the years for the loyalty of our editors and the wonderful support and love expressed to me by fans of the comic strip.
Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy ... how can I ever forget them ...
— Charles M. Schulz
The final daily comic was extended into a Sunday comic that ran on February 13, 2000 as the very last Peanuts strip. Schulz died a day before that strip ran. Over a hundred cartoonists paid tribute to Schulz and Peanuts in their own comic strips on May 27, 2000.
